According to Windowslatest reports, Microsoft has confirmed that the functional upgrade of Windows 10 this fall will be the same as the May 2020 update (version 2004). There are rumors that 21H1 will not arrive until the second half of next year, because Microsoft has shifted its internal focus to Windows 10X.

Naijatechnews learned that Microsoft is currently testing the version of the Iron development branch, which is the codename of Windows 10 21H1. According to Microsoft, there is no guarantee that these features will appear in the final version of the 21H1 update . The new features of Windows 10 version 21H1 are as follows:

Windows 10 will list unused files and apps that users can delete

Windows 10 will join the quick release space feature. For example, the Storage Sense feature in Windows 10 allows users to delete unnecessary and temporary files to optimize storage when the hard drive is full.

Users can also use the “Disk Cleanup” tool to reclaim space to store more important files, but may not notice unused applications, files or documents during the cleaning process.

Storage recommendations

In the Windows 10 21H1 update, Microsoft added a feature called “User Cleanup Recommendations.” This feature is part of the “Storage” setting, and it will create a list of apps, files and personal data that users don’t use frequently. Users can sort the list by date and easily decide whether to keep large files, applications.

Uninstall app

Windows 10 also got a new feature that allows users to uninstall apps that they don’t use frequently.

This function will automatically save application data and settings. When the user tries to reopen the archived application, Windows will automatically re-download and restore the application from the Microsoft Store.

The “Archive” application feature is currently available in preview versions and is expected to be available with Windows 10 version 21H1.

Disk management

A preview version of 21H1 in the development channel provides a more intuitive way to manage the computer’s disks and partitions.

With this feature update, Microsoft is expected to update its disk management tools for users. Unlike classic disk management tools, this new disk management tool follows UWP principles, and new users can also easily view or understand disk information or create/format volumes.

Volume data in Disk Manager

Microsoft said that for advanced users, it will continue to provide the traditional “snapshot” MMC disk management interface.

Audio device settings

Microsoft is also improving modern audio equipment settings. Now, the “Audio Devices” tab in the “Settings” application can tell the user which device is the default player, and the user can also click on the device to set it as the default player.

Manage audio devices

Similarly, Microsoft has updated the classic Volume Mixer.

Task manager

The task manager will get a new feature called “architecture”, which can show the user the architecture (x64, x86, ARM64) of each running process.

DNS configuration

Windows 10 now allows users to configure DNS directly from the Settings application. In the past, this function was generally accessed through the “Control Panel”.

The preview version will add a built-in DoH setting in Windows 10, which will enable HTTPS-based DNS for all applications and browsers running on the PC. This includes Microsoft Edge, Chrome and Firefox.

The built-in DoH support is very convenient because users no longer need to configure the DoH settings of each browser separately.

Obviously, the DoH feature of Windows 10 is currently only available to testers, and it is expected that these features will be added in next year’s update. If you want to access the system-level DoH in the preview version of Windows 10, users only need to go to the network settings and configure DNS.
