OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently publicly stated that he is not interested in defeating Google in the search engine.
Altman appeared on a podcast on Monday and was interviewed by Lex Fridman. In the interview, Friedman compared OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s search engine. IT House translated Altman’s answer as follows:
I think this [challenging Google’s search status] is very boring.
First, we need to evaluate whether we can build a better search engine than Google or other companies. The answer is yes. In theory, we should build such a search product to bring better products to users.
But I think this approach is a bit too childish.
What excites me is not that we can replicate a better Google search, but that there may be better ways to help people find information, take action, and synthesize information.
I don’t think the world needs another Google.
