Google launches Google AI SDK to simplify the integration of high-performance model Gemini Pro in Android applications.
Google recently launched a new Google AI SDK, aiming to simplify the integration of Android applications with its high-performance Gemini Pro model. With the SDK, developers don’t need to build and manage their own backend infrastructure.
According to Google, Gemini Pro is one of its most powerful models and can be used to handle a wide range of text and image reasoning tasks. Gemini Pro runs in Google data centers and can be accessed through the Gemini API. Google says the easiest way to use Gemini is through Google AI Studio, a web-based tool that enables prototyping and running prompts in a browser. Once satisfied with the results, developers can export the model as code and run it on the backend using their programming language of choice, such as Python.
For Android applications, Google provides the Google AI client SDK for Android, which encapsulates the Gemini REST API into a Kotlin native API. With it, developers do not need to interact directly with the REST API or implement server-side services in Android applications to access Gemini models.
In addition to text-only models, Gemini provides a multimodal model (gemini-pro-vision) that is able to generate text from text and image inputs and supports streaming for faster interactions.
To further simplify developer workflow, the latest Android Studio preview introduces a new project template that will guide developers through the steps required to use Gemini Pro.
In addition to Gemini Pro, Google also provides a smaller model, Gemini Nano, which can run on the device side, the data does not leave the device, and can be used even when the network is unavailable. Gemini Nano can be used on some devices through AICore. AICore is a new system service in Android 14. It is designed to simplify the integration of AI into Android applications. It is responsible for model management, runtime, security and other aspects.
