Hollywood actors go on strike for four months without agreement on issues including use of artificial intelligence.
According to Reuters, the Hollywood Screen Actors Guild responded to the latest offers from major movie studios and streaming media service providers on Monday, saying that the two sides have not yet reached an agreement on many issues such as the use of artificial intelligence.
The Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) said its bargaining committee is determined to secure the best deal and responsibly end the four-month strike.
In a notice to members on the X social media platform, the union said: “Our industry is at a critical point and we need a fair contract to ensure this career is viable now and into the future. “
According to NaijaTechNews , SAG-AFTRA members went on strike in July, demanding higher compensation in the era of streaming television, as well as protection and other benefits in the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
The American Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents Disney, Netflix and others, made what the studios called its “last, best and final” offer on Saturday. Netflix co-chief executive Ted Sarandos said in an interview with Reuters on Monday that the two sides are negotiating to find a solution.
“We’re at the table negotiating every day and we’re working to resolve the strike and get the industry back to work,” Sarandos said at an event at Netflix’s recently restored Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. We are in the business of telling stories, and that’s what we want to do every day. We will try our best to get things back to normal so that our fans can see more work.”
Last week, SAG-AFTRA union leaders expressed “cautious optimism” that a deal would be reached soon, but also said the two sides were at odds on various issues. When it comes to AI, actors are demanding assurances that their digital likenesses will not be used without their permission.
