Google One VPN Comes to iPhone
The Google One VPN service is available for anyone subscribed to the 2TB storage plan, priced at $9.99 per month or $99.99/yearly in the US. You also get access to the VPN service if you are subscribed to the significantly more expensive higher-end storage plans offering 10TB, 20TB, or 30TB of space.
Additionally, the 2TB or higher plans entitle you to other benefits like 10 percent cashback on Google Store purchases, priority customer support, the ability to share storage space with up to five family members, and more. This also means that you’ll be able to share the VPN service with your family members.
How to Use Google One VPN on iPhone
To use the VPN service, you must first install the Google One app on your iPhone. Next, make sure you’re on the 2TB or higher storage plan and follow these simple instructions:

Remember that if you are enabling the feature for the first time, you’ll have to go through a setup process that will require you to install a VPN profile on your iPhone.
Google One’s VPN service is available in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
VPN by Google One Is Useful But Has Limitations
Google One VPN will encrypt your browsing history to protect you against hackers on insecure networks and reduce online tracking by hiding your IP address. Additionally, the service itself does not track or log your browsing activity, which some free VPN services tend to do.
Note that there’s some feature disparity between the Android and iOS versions of the VPN service. Unfortunately, iPhone users cannot temporarily turn off the VPN or exclude certain apps from using the service.
One major limitation of VPN by Google One is that it doesn’t let you select the server you want to connect to, meaning you can’t use a different country’s IP address to get around geoblocks. This is unlike typical VPN services out there. In many ways, Google’s VPN service is similar to the iCloud Private Relay feature in iOS 15, which also misses this option.
Google’s VPN Service Is Not a Replacement for Dedicated VPNs
The Google One VPN service cannot be considered a VPN replacement. Instead, think of it as a service that aims to secure and protect your online browsing sessions, which should still be good enough for most users.
There are plenty of other use cases where you might need to buy a full-fledged VPN service where Google One’s VPN service will not work.
