Google’s official file manager App “Files by Google” recently released an update with version number 1.2729.610141523.0. This update adds a “document scanning” function.
After the user opens the App, a “Scan” button will appear in the lower right corner of the interface. After clicking, the camera interface will appear. You can choose to automatically capture the document border or select it manually. In addition, users can crop, rotate, clean, or add filters to the scanned results. They can also merge multiple scanned results into the same document and export the file in PDF format.
As for the file location, the App will create a new designated folder “Scanned”, and documents scanned and exported through Files by Google will be saved in this newly created folder.
From a functional point of view, the new “scanner” added by Files by Google is quite similar to Microsoft’s “Microsoft Lens” (formerly known as Office Lens) that people are familiar with. Both of them will contain files, Photos of PPT, large screens and other elements are transformed into more readable and organized document forms .
According to TechRadar, this feature is already supported on Pixel series phones, Nothing Phone, OnePlus Pad and other devices. It is worth mentioning that the Google Drive App has previously launched the same functions and adopted a consistent user interface. But for native/native-like Android players, the reach of the file manager is naturally higher than that of the cloud drive.
