Samsung officially released the Galaxy S24 series of mobile phones at the Galaxy Unpacked conference held today.
There are three models in this series, the Galaxy S24 starts at $799.99, the Galaxy S24 Plus starts at $999.99, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra starts at $1,299.99.
The biggest highlight of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series of mobile phones is the introduction of the “Galaxy AI” function . According to reports from foreign technology media 9to5Google, Naijatechnews summarizes the Galaxy AI related functions as follows:
Live Translate and Interpreter
instant translation
One of the most impressive new Galaxy AI features on the Galaxy S24 series is real-time translation, which Samsung actually announced a month ago. The feature uses artificial intelligence to translate phone calls in real time while the call is in progress.
This function can be implemented through the Samsung Phone application software. Users only need to click on the “Call Assist” function during a call to enable this function.
After enabling it, the user needs to select a supported language from the language list (it is said that it needs to be downloaded in advance), and after the disclaimer, the content of your call can be translated in real time.
Anything you say will be translated into the other person’s language and vice versa, and you’ll hear both sides of the conversation. This all happens on the device too.
In our demo, real-time translation worked pretty well, but occasionally things went wrong, which were automatically corrected later. For example, one time it was translated as “Death Galleria Feature How Canada” and then automatically corrected.
Interpreter
In addition to the instant translation function, Samsung has also introduced “Interpreter”, which is suitable for face-to-face scenarios.
This feature is similar to Google Translate’s Conversation feature, where you can select two languages and have your phone listen and translate the conversation back and forth. One side faces you, and the other side is flipped over so the person you’re talking to can read it.
The microphone icon switches back and forth to designate who should speak, and in our demo, it worked very well. Samsung once again emphasizes that everything is done locally.
Chat Assist
This function is embedded into the Samsung Keyboard application and provides a variety of functions.
Chat Translation
As the name suggests, it can be used in any chat application and is powered by input methods. Once the message is translated (on the device), both the original text and the translated version are displayed to ensure the entire conversation is understandable.
Writing Style
This feature allows you to rewrite text you’ve already written to expand the content, change the tone, or adapt to specific contexts such as social media.
Spelling and Grammar
This is a super spell checking tool.
Note Assist
This function is embedded in the Samsung Notes application and can generate summaries or format notes, etc.
Transcript Assist
The feature, built into Samsung’s Voice Recorder app, can transcribe recordings into text (including identifying the speaker), then let you translate it into other languages or summarize the recording.
It works very similarly to the Google Recorder app on Pixels, but doesn’t do any real-time transcription.
Generative Edit
This is an AI editor built into Samsung’s Gallery app that can highlight, move, enlarge, shrink or remove objects in photos, with generative AI used to fill in the gaps left.
This function is the same as the Magic Editor on the Google Pixel 8 series, requires an Internet connection, and is based on Google’s Imagen 2 text-to-image diffusion technology.
Edit Suggestions
Edit Suggestions automatically detects photos in the Samsung Gallery app and suggests possible edits, such as removing reflections.
AI wallpaper
One of Samsung’s other AI features copied from Google’s is AI Wallpapers. The feature, which debuted on the Pixel 8, can generate wallpapers from a variety of themes and change the colors and objects to your liking. As you can see in the image below, Samsung has copied this feature almost exactly.
Circle to Search
This feature allows users to search for any image, video or text on the screen by circling, highlighting, doodling or clicking without taking a screenshot and quickly obtain the information they need.
Galaxy S24 comes with Google’s Gemini AI
Most of Samsung Galaxy AI’s new features are built on Google AI models. Specifically, the Galaxy S24 series uses the Gemini Nano to handle on-device tasks, while the Gemini Pro handles many cloud-driven AI tasks.
Will this AI make it to older Galaxy phones?
All these new features are coming to the Galaxy S24 series, but what about older devices? Thankfully, Samsung has confirmed a preliminary list of devices that will be updated in the first half of 2024. These devices include:

Galaxy S23+
