Last April, a US jury found that Samsung violated five patents on Netlist. Accepting the jury’s ruling, the US court ruled that Samsung should pay $303 million in compensation to Netlist over patent infringement.
After that, Samsung filed a patent invalidation trial with the US Patent Tribunal for five patents alleged to be infringed. At last, all five cases related to patent litigation, including the two cases, were declared invalid.
Patent dispute with Netlist
Back in 2021, US semiconductor firm Netlist initiated the legal battle against Samsung by filing a lawsuit claiming “memory technology used in Samsung’s cloud computing servers violated its patents.”
In a recent development, all patent infringement cases filed by Netlist were ruled invalid. Moreover, all grounds for the payment of the lawsuit in the Eastern District Court of Texas in April last year disappeared.
On April 2nd, the US Patent Tribunal ruled in favor of Samsung, a big blow to Netlist. The judgment has been delivered on two patent invalidation lawsuits filed by Samsung in the country.
During the trial, the South Korean tech giant managed to prove that its technology works differently from Netlist’s. Hence, there’s nothing to be considered an infringement of the patent as Netlist’s patents are invalid.
