SpaceX will execute the Ax-3 launch mission on January 9 next year, sending Turkey’s first astronaut and three other people to the International Space Station.
Turkey’s Minister of Industry and Technology Fatih Kargil announced that Turkey will carry out its first manned space mission on January 9, 2024.
Our inquiry found that he was referring to Ax-3, Axiom Space’s third commercial space mission to the International Space Station. Four astronauts will fly to the International Space Station on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft.
Axiom Space did not disclose the fare per astronaut, but considering that the price per astronaut for the Ax-1 mission in April 2022 is US$55 million, I believe that this time The fares won’t be cheap either.
According to reports, the Ax-3 mission will be led by former NASA astronaut Michael López-Alegría. He has dual nationality of the United States and Spain. He commanded the Ax-1 mission in 2022 and now Serves as the company’s chief astronaut (according to NASA regulations, all commercial space missions to the International Space Station require a retired NASA astronaut to be at the helm).
The Ax-3 crew also includes Italian Air Force Colonel Walter Villadei, who participated in Virgin Galactic’s first commercial spaceflight mission in June this year.
In addition to him, there are ESA astronaut Marcus Wandt from Sweden; and Alper Gezeravcı, the first Turkish citizen in space.
This will be Lopez-Alegría’s sixth mission, Vilardi’s second and Wander and Gazelachi’s first. They will stay on the International Space Station for 14 days, during which time they will conduct 13 different scientific experiments.
