Google is exploring a new paid service for its search engine, which offers advanced AI-powered features. This service would add to existing subscriptions like Gemini Advanced and Google One. The standard search engine would remain free, but the new AI features could enhance the search experience for a fee.
Last year, Google ad’s revenue reached $175 billion primarily from search ads. The company tested the Search Generative Experience (SGE) last May to maintain this revenue while integrating AI. SGE provides detailed summaries and answers to search queries.

The SGE feature is optional but is now being tested as a default option for some users. Its high computational costs have slowed its integration into Google’s main search service.
The use of AI in search could reduce the number of clicks on ads, which is a significant source of income for Google. The company’s engineers are working on this technology, but there is no final decision or timeline for its launch. This change could be a strategic move by Google to stay competitive and financially viable in the AI era.
