Microsoft has announced the release of the Windows 10 preview build 20226 system update. This update is for the Dev channel.
Added function to store operating status monitoring to protect user data
Naijatechnews understands that Microsoft said that trying to restore data after a drive fails is more expensive. The storage health monitoring function is designed to detect hardware abnormalities in NVMe SSDs and notify users to take action. It is strongly recommended that users back up their data immediately after receiving the notification.
Click the notification or navigate to the drive properties page in “Storage Settings” (Settings-System-Storage-Manage Disks and Volumes-Properties), additional details will be provided.
Other updates
New “phone settings” experience, seamless device management within the app
Your Phone team announced that in the new settings interface, users can now easily connect new devices, delete old devices, and switch between active devices within the app. Your Phone has also made visual improvements to the display device list. Now, each device can be identified on its own device card with the user’s personally synchronized wallpaper.
The new user experience will gradually be rolled out to Insiders users, so it may take a while to show up in the Your Phone app. Microsoft said, please try to use this feature, and then provide comments under the settings-help and feedback-send feedback in the app.
Developer update
The Windows SDK is now continuously delivered on the Dev channel. Whenever a new OS version is released to the Dev channel, the corresponding SDK will also be released. Users can install the latest Insider SDK from aka.ms/InsiderSDK at any time.
Changes and improvements
- Microsoft will roll out a change and will turn off theme synchronization. During this process, users will not see the “Theme” option in “Sync Settings”, and changes to the background will not be synchronized between devices. If the user has been using theme synchronization and needs to access it when setting up a new PC or account, the synchronized desktop background saved last time will be downloaded to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\WallpaperBackup.
- After making some reliability improvements, Microsoft will re-enable the persistent update and restart function of the “Notepad” window (if “Restart Application” is enabled in the “Login Settings”).
- After installing PWA from Microsoft Edge, the Task Manager will now display correctly under “Applications” (not “Background Processes”) in the “Processes” tab, and display the application icons associated with the PWA.
- Microsoft is updating the file explorer so that when users right-click a compressed OneDrive file that is set to be online only, they will now see the “Extract All” option, just like the file is locally available on the PC.
- Microsoft is updating the new DNS option in “Settings” so that when entering a static IP, a static DNS entry is required and the gateway is not a required field.
