Wine 5.16 development version has been released, the main changes are as follows:
-Support x86 AVX register
-ARM64 fixes for macOS
-Further structural adjustments to console support
-Multiple bugfixes
The range of bugfixes includes from Quake Champions to Tomb Raider, and then to application fixes . There are about 21 known bugfixes in total.
Improved macOS ARM64 support is very important for macOS 11 “Big Sur” and Apple’s upcoming system using its own chip . But to get support for 64-bit ARM macOS in place, a lot of work needs to be done. For example, applications like Hangover are needed to run x86 applications/games on ARM64.
The Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX, Advanced Vector Extensions) added in Wine 5.16 revolve around the support for AVX registers in NTDLL’s NtSetContextThread() on i386 and x86_64, as well as support for AVX context in fault exceptions.
