After you’ve applied for your US visa, approved applicants can schedule an appointment for an interview, you can book an appointment for your interview with the US embassy in Nigeria.
After your application has been approved, you will need to go for an interview. An interview may determine whether your visa will be finally granted or not.
For Nigerians, the process is pretty simple and straight forward. You can book an appointment online which should take less than 30 minutes to complete.
Whether you applied for a nonimmigrant or immigrant visa, the process is the same. Remember, you have to book the right appointment for the visa category that you applied for.
Schedule an Appointment
Before you schedule an appointment for your visa interview, make sure that you have already completed and submitted your DS-160 application online, and that you already have your DS-160 Confirmation Number handy, because you will need this information to schedule an appointment. The DS-160 Confirmation Number is an alphanumeric application number, you can find these number at the top-right side when you filled out the DS-160 application form online.

To schedule a US visa appointment in Nigeria, you need the following information, and you may be required to provide them at some point during the process.

- Mailing address
- Student and Exchange Visitor program details (for students)
- MRV payment receipt.
How to Apply
Step 1: Create an account
The very first step to schedule a visa interview appointment is to create an account. You account allows you to schedule an interview, track your documents and subsequently contact you in the future.

For new user registration, you will be required to enter your country for visa, email, first and last name, and password.
Step 2: Select Visa Type
In this section, you’re required to select either nonimmigrant or immigrant visa depending on the purpose of your travel and the visa type that you already applied for.
After you select the visa type and purpose of your trip, the page will provide information about visa application filing, fee (MRV) payment procedures, appointment availability, and additional steps to complete your visa interview appointment for approved applicants.
Step 3: Select Post
In this section, you will be required to select the post where you would like to schedule your appointment. This is where your interview will be held.
The US Embassy have two posts for visa interviews in Nigeria. You can either select Abuja or Lagos.
Step 4: Select Visa Category
In this section, you will be required to select which visa category applies to you depending on the visa category you applied for and the purpose of your travel. Some visa categories include F, J, M, B, C, H, K and L visas.
Student visa appointments are only for student visa applicants, if you are travelling to the United States for another purpose such as tourism or visit, you must select the right visa category and schedule the right appointment.
For example, If you are not a student and you select the F or J student visa appointment, your appointment will be cancelled, and if your appointment is cancelled, you will be required to repay for your visa fees.
Step 5: Select Visa Class
In this section, you are required to select your visa class. Some of the visa classes you can select from include; F-1, F-2, M-1, M-2, J-1 and J-2 visas.
F, M or J category visas to study, participate in non-academic or vocational studies or training, and to participate in an exchange program respectively.
The F-1 visa is the most common type of student visa. You will need to select this class of visa if you’re going to study an academic program or course in an accredited US university or college, a language axchange program at a partner university or college .
Also, if you are going to study for more than 18 hours a week in the US, you will need an F-1 visa.
The F-2 visa is required for spouse or child of an F-1 visa holder. If you are a child or spouse of an F-1 visa holder, you should select an F-2 visa in this case.
The M-1 visa is for applicants going for non-academic, vocational studies or training in the US.
An M-2 visa is required for spouse or child of an M-1 visa holder. If this is the purpose of your travel, you should select an M-2 visa.
Exchange programs allows students to study in a partner university or college in US. If you’re going for an exchange program, you should select the J-1 visa class in this case. For spouse or child of a J-1 visa holder, you should select J-2 in this situation.
Step 6: Enter your Personal Information
In this section, you are required to fill in your personal information such as passport details, contact information, mailing address, student and exchange Visitor program details (for students and exchange visitors).
Note: you have to make sure that all your personal details are correct. Your mailing address will be used to mail and deliver all your documents that are ready for pickup.
Step 7: Dependants
If there are any of your Dependants (child or spouse) whom you submitted a visa application for, you should enter their information in this section. Dependants may include people who are below 14 years of age or 80 years and above.
Step 8: Pay your fees and Submit
After filling out and completing the above sections in your form, you need to enter the MRV payment receipt number in this section and then submit your schedule of appointment.
After submitting your application, you will receive your appointment details including the location, date and time for your appointment.
