Some users have been experiencing a frustrating issue with Android Auto, where voice commands for navigation were being directed exclusively to Google Maps, avoiding users’ preferred navigation apps. This issue has been affecting users who rely on alternative apps like Waze.
Android Auto with Google Assistant allows users to navigate using voice commands through their selected app. Due to the bug, voice commands are redirected to Google Maps commands, regardless of the user’s recent app or settings.

As a temporary solution, users found that disabling Google Maps on their smartphones stopped the problem, although this is not a permanent solution. It compromised the overall functionality and user experience of Android Auto.
The good news is that a solution is being deployed. The new update to the Google app, version 15.13.46.28, appears to fix the issue, allowing voice commands to work correctly with the chosen navigation app. This update is restoring the system to its full capability of the Android Auto app.
