According to Reuters, two U.S. senators wrote to Tesla CEO Musk, calling on him to “quickly” recall any steering and suspension parts that pose a safety risk.
Reuters previously published a “shocking” investigation that revealed how Tesla blamed drivers for frequent failures of components it had long known were defective.
Senators Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Edward J. Markey of Massachusetts wrote in the letter: “Recent reports indicate that Tesla knew We are deeply concerned about the safety defects in its vehicles and concealing the causes of those defects from NHTSA.”
Senators called on Musk to correct ” clearly false and misleading statements ” he made to security agencies .
Naijatechnews noted that Tesla told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and customers that frequent failures of defective parts of its electric vehicles were caused by drivers themselves, such as hitting the roadside.
Tesla documents show that its engineers have been tracking frequent failures of rear linkages and other suspension, steering and axle components for years, which typically occur in relatively new cars.
“We are troubled that you are blaming these failures on your customers,” the senators said in the letter. “Tesla is not only trying to shift responsibility for the substandard quality of its vehicles onto buyers, but it is also asking the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to It is unacceptable that the Authority makes the same flawed arguments.”
It is worth mentioning that in October 2020, Tesla recalled nearly 30,000 Model S/X vehicles in China due to suspension problems.
